Maple Leafs announce Auston Matthews as new captain

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced on Wednesday morning that star centre Auston Matthews is the team’s new captain. The 26-year-old is the first American to hold the title for the franchise and takes over from teammate John Tavares who had held the captaincy since 2019.
